Originally part of Israel's wisdom literature; read liturgically at Passover
To celebrate the beauty of romantic love between a man and a woman — and for many interpreters, to picture God's passionate love for His people
Song of Solomon is an extended love poem — a dialogue between a bride and groom celebrating the beauty, desire, and joy of romantic love. It is candid, sensual, and exquisitely crafted. The church has historically also interpreted it as an allegory of God's love for Israel or Christ's love for the Church, and both readings carry rich theological significance.
The chapter starts with a kiss and ends with a house — revealing that love's deepest longing isn't just desire but belonging, a place where something real is being built.
Song of Solomon 1 — A Love Song With Nothing to Hide
He came running over mountains to reach her — then stood at the window and waited. True love is both urgent and patient.
Song of Solomon 2 — When Love Comes Running
The interior no one else sees was 'crafted with love' — raising the question: what does your love look like when nobody's watching?
Song of Solomon 3 — The Night She Went Searching
"There is no flaw in you" isn't naivety — it's what love sounds like when it's so captivated by someone that it sees wholeness, not a checklist of imperfections.
Song of Solomon 4 — Altogether Beautiful
