A royal official's bruised ego leads to a genocidal decree against every Jewish person in the Persian Empire.
Haman, the king's chief advisor, is furious that Mordecai won't bow to him. Rather than just targeting Mordecai, he convinces Xerxes to issue a decree to annihilate all Jews throughout the empire on a specific date. He even casts lots to pick the day. When Mordecai hears about it, he challenges Esther with the famous words: perhaps you were placed in your position for such a time as this.
One man's bruised ego spirals into a plot to annihilate an entire people. Haman manipulates the king, casts lots to pick a date, and sends out a decree of genocide — while the king sits back and pours another drink.
EstherFor Such a Time as ThisMordecai discovers a government-sanctioned genocide targeting every Jewish person in the empire and pressures Esther to act — but approaching the king uninvited is a death sentence. What follows is one of the most consequential conversations in the Bible, passed back and forth through a messenger, building to a decision that will cost Esther everything or save an entire people.
