While stuck at Troas with closed doors east, Paul sees a vision of a Macedonian man begging him to cross the Aegean — and the gospel enters Europe.
On his second missionary journey, Paul is repeatedly blocked by the Holy Spirit from preaching in Asia and Bithynia. He ends up at Troas on the Aegean coast with nowhere to go. There, in a night vision, a Macedonian man stands and pleads with him to come over and help. Paul and his team — Silas, Timothy, and now Luke (the "we" passages begin here) — immediately conclude that God has called them to Macedonia. They board a ship and sail to Samothrace, then Neapolis, then to Philippi, where Lydia becomes the first convert in Europe.
