Facing a massive Philistine army and getting no answer from God through any means, Saul disguised himself and visited a medium at Endor — the same kind of practitioner he had previously banned from Israel. She called up the spirit of Samuel, who delivered a devastating message: God had torn the kingdom from Saul, and by tomorrow he and his sons would be dead. Saul collapsed in terror.
