In 480 BCE, 300 Spartans and their allies hold a narrow mountain pass against Xerxes' massive Persian invasion force — buying Greece precious time to organize its defense.
King Xerxes I leads an enormous army into Greece to finish what his father Darius started. At the narrow coastal pass of Thermopylae, King Leonidas of Sparta leads roughly 7,000 Greeks — including his famous 300 Spartans — in a three-day stand that delays the Persian advance. When a traitor reveals a mountain path around the defenses, Leonidas dismisses most of the army and stays to fight to the death. Their sacrifice becomes the most legendary last stand in military history.
