Queen Boudica leads a massive Celtic uprising against Rome in 60 CE — burning London to the ground before being crushed.
After the Romans publicly flog Queen Boudica and assault her daughters, she unites the Iceni and Trinovantes tribes in a furious revolt. Her forces destroy Camulodunum (Colchester), Londinium (London), and Verulamium (St Albans), killing an estimated 70,000-80,000 people. A charred destruction layer is still visible in London's archaeological record. Governor Suetonius Paulinus eventually defeats her army, but the revolt forces Rome to reconsider how it governs Britain.
