Moabite king Mesha erects a stone monument celebrating his rebellion against Israel — confirming biblical accounts from the other side's perspective.
Around 840 BCE, King Mesha of Moab commissioned an inscribed stone celebrating his successful revolt against Israelite control. Discovered in 1868 near Dhiban, Jordan, the Mesha Stele mentions Israel, the 'House of Omri,' and the Israelite god YHWH — matching and expanding on the account in 2 Kings 3. It's a rare case where we have both the biblical narrative and the opposing king's version of the same events.
