The Persian Empire built an ancient highway system that connected the biblical world from Turkey to Iran.
Stretching over 1,600 miles from Sardis to Susa, the Royal Road allowed mounted couriers to cover the distance in just seven days — a journey that would otherwise take three months on foot. This infrastructure made possible the rapid communication that allowed Persian kings like Cyrus and Darius to govern their vast empire, including the Jewish communities in exile. The same road system facilitated the Jewish return to Jerusalem.
