Ancient Arabian oasis kingdom — caravan traders named by the prophets in oracles against the nations
ArabiaHistorically Verified
Modern site is the al-Ula oasis in Saudi Arabia. Royal Commission excavations have uncovered Lihyanite inscriptions and dramatic rock-cut tombs that confirm a major caravan-trading kingdom.
An ancient oasis kingdom in northwest Arabia, listed among Cush's descendants (Genesis 10:7) and again among Abraham's grandsons through Keturah (Genesis 25:3). The Dedanites were known throughout the ancient Near East as caravan traders carrying frankincense, ivory, and ebony — Ezekiel's lament over Tyre names them as suppliers of saddle blankets and ivory horns (Ezekiel 27:15, 20). The prophets repeatedly named Dedan in oracles of judgment alongside Edom and the Arabian tribes (Isaiah 21:13; Jeremiah 25:23, 49:8; Ezekiel 25:13).
