A Calebite settlement in the genealogical catalogs of Judah descended from Raham son of Shema
JudeaJorkeam appears in the Calebite genealogies of 1 Chronicles 2 as a settlement descended through the line of Caleb son of Hezron: "And the sons of Shema; Raham, the father of Jorkoam: and Rekem begat Shammai" (1 Chronicles 2:44). Like many places in the Chronicler's lists, Jorkeam is named through the eponymous ancestor who founded or controlled it, anchoring the Calebite clans in the southern Judean hill country around Hebron alongside Mareshah, Ziph, and Tappuah. The exact location is unknown — some scholars suggest it may be a variant spelling of Jokdeam in the same region.
