A Calebite-Edomite ancestral settlement near Bethlehem traced through the genealogies of Caleb and the descendants of Seir
JudeaManahath appears in two genealogical contexts. First as an Edomite ancestor in the Horite line through Esau: "And these are the sons of Shobal; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam" (Genesis 36:23). Second as a Calebite settlement near Bethlehem in the Judean hill country: "And the sons of Salma; Bethlehem, and the Netophathites, Ataroth, the house of Joab, and half of the Manahethites" (1 Chronicles 2:54). The town is also named as the destination of Benjamite exiles deported by their own kinsmen: "And these are the sons of Ehud... and they removed them to Manahath" (1 Chronicles 8:6). The site is commonly identified with Malhah southwest of Jerusalem.
