A southern Italian harbor where Pauls grain ship anchored overnight on the final leg of the voyage from Sicily to Puteoli
ItalyRhegium appears once in Scripture as the final stop in Paul's Mediterranean voyage to Rome: "And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli: where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome" (Acts 28:13-14). Rhegium was a major Greek-then-Roman harbor on the toe of the Italian peninsula directly across the Strait of Messina from Sicily — a strategic stopover for ships waiting for favorable winds to make the final run up the Italian coast. The modern city of Reggio Calabria stands on the same site.
