From the sons of Amram: Shubael, and from his line, Jehdeiah. From Rehabiah's family: Isshiah the chief. From the Izharites: Shelomoth, and from his sons, Jahath. From Hebron's family: Jeriah the chief, Amariah second, Jahaziel third, Jekameam fourth. From Uzziel: Micah, and from Micah's sons, Shamir. Micah's brother Isshiah had a son Zechariah.
From Merari's line came two branches — Mahli and Mushi — plus the sons of Jaaziah: Beno, Shoham, Zaccur, and Ibri. From Mahli came Eleazar, who had no sons. From Kish came Jerahmeel. And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the Levite families, organized by their ancestral lines.
And they cast lots too — the head of each family and his younger brother alike — in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and all the family leaders of the Priests and Levites. Same system. Same fairness. Same transparency.
