Elisha sends a prophet to anoint the military commander Jehu as king, and Jehu carries out a bloody purge of Ahab's entire dynasty and Baal worship in Israel.
Jehu is anointed king with a mandate to wipe out the house of Ahab. He drives his chariot at his trademark furious speed to Jezreel, kills King Joram, and has Jezebel thrown from a window. He then systematically eliminates Ahab's seventy sons and all the priests of Baal by luring them into their temple under false pretenses. The dynasty of Ahab is finished, but Jehu's violence goes beyond his mandate.
