Jesus performs a two-step healing — the only miracle in the gospels that happens in stages rather than all at once.
People bring a blind man to Jesus in Bethsaida and beg him to touch the man. Jesus leads him outside the village, spits on his eyes, and lays hands on him. He asks what he can see, and the man answers, 'I see people, but they look like trees walking around.' Jesus lays his hands on him a second time, and this time he sees everything clearly. It's the only two-stage healing in the gospels — possibly a teaching moment about spiritual sight developing in stages, fitting Bethsaida's mixed response to Jesus (Matthew 11:21).
