The Black Obelisk — a stone monument discovered in Iraq — shows Israel's King Jehu bowing and paying tribute to Assyria's king.
Around 841 BCE, Israel's King Jehu submitted to Assyrian king Shalmaneser III, an event immortalized on the famous Black Obelisk discovered at Nimrud in 1846. The carved stone panel shows Jehu (or his ambassador) prostrating before the Assyrian king, with porters carrying gold, silver, and other valuables. It's the only known ancient image of an Israelite king.
