Workers completed the Great Pyramid — the tallest structure on Earth for nearly 4,000 years.
Around 2560 BCE, after roughly 20 years of construction, the Great Pyramid of Pharaoh Khufu was finished. Standing 481 feet tall and containing an estimated 2.3 million limestone blocks, it remained humanity's tallest building until the Lincoln Cathedral spire in 1311 CE. Recent discoveries suggest the workforce was not enslaved but consisted of well-fed, rotating crews of skilled laborers.
