A Moabite king's victory monument provides one of the earliest external confirmations of biblical Israel.
King Mesha of Moab erected this basalt stele to celebrate his revolt against Israelite domination. The inscription references Israel, its king Omri, and the Israelite God YHWH — making it one of the most important archaeological finds for biblical history. It was discovered by a German missionary in 1868 near Dhiban, Jordan.
