The Assyrian king's own records confirm his siege of Jerusalem — and notably never claim he captured it.
This six-sided clay prism, now in the British Museum, contains Sennacherib's account of his 701 BCE campaign against Judah. He boasts of trapping Hezekiah 'like a bird in a cage' and conquering 46 Judean cities — but conspicuously never claims to have taken Jerusalem. This silence aligns perfectly with the biblical account of the city's miraculous deliverance described in 2 Kings 19.
