An Egyptian pharaoh captures Gezer and gives it to Solomon as a wedding dowry.
Around 960 BCE, Pharaoh Siamun — or possibly Shoshenq I's predecessor — campaigns into Canaan and destroys the Canaanite city of Gezer. He then gives the ruined city to Solomon as part of a marriage alliance. Archaeological destruction layers at Gezer align with this period, and Solomon's subsequent rebuilding is well-attested.
