Solomon's Fall

Despite his extraordinary wisdom, Solomon married hundreds of foreign women who brought their gods with them. Over time, his wives turned his heart after other gods — he built high places for Chemosh and Molek right outside Jerusalem. God told Solomon that because of this, the kingdom would be torn away from his son, though one tribe would remain for David's sake. Enemies rose up on every side, and the prophet Ahijah told Jeroboam that God would give him ten tribes.
