The Chroniclers genealogy preserves a glimpse of King Davids royal craft economy — naming the families of potters at Netaim and Gederah who "dwelt with the king for his work."
The Chronicler's genealogy of Judah preserves one of the rare snapshots of the royal craft economy of the early monarchy: "These were the potters, and those that dwelt among plants and hedges: there they dwelt with the king for his work" (1 Chronicles 4:23). The same passage names Netaim and Gederah as the potters' guild settlements — Shephelah workshops supplying the storage jars, oil amphoras, and household ceramics for the king's administrative apparatus. The detail is one of the earliest surviving witnesses to organized royal craft-guilds in ancient Israel.
