Joshuas catalog of Dans tribal allotment names a string of coastal-plain towns from Zorah Eshtaol and Aijalon out to Jehud Bene-berak Gath-rimmon and Joppa — though the tribe later migrated north because of Amorite pressure.
Joshua 19:40-48 records Dan's tribal allotment in the coastal corridor between Judah and the Philistines: "And the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families. And the coast of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir-shemesh, And Shaalabbin, and Aijalon, and Jethlah, And Elon, and Thimnathah, and Ekron, And Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath, And Jehud, and Bene-berak, and Gath-rimmon, And Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border before Japho." Pressed by the Amorites, the tribe of Dan eventually migrated north to capture Laish-Dan at the foot of Mount Hermon.
