Joshua 13 catalogs the territories that remained unsubdued when Joshua grew old — the five lords of the Philistines the Avvim the Geshurites the Mearah of the Sidonians and the country of the Gebalites.
Joshua 13:1-7 opens the second half of the book of Joshua with the Lord's assessment of what still remained to be conquered: "Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed." The catalog of unconquered territories includes the five lords of the Philistines (Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, Ekron); the Avvim; the country of the Geshurites; all the land of the Canaanites and the Mearah of the Sidonians; the country of the Gebalites and the territory toward Lebo-hamath. These pockets of unconquered land would become the long-term thorns in Israel's side throughout the period of the Judges.
