A wealthy tax collector climbs a tree to see Jesus and ends up hosting him for dinner — and gives back everything he stole.
Zacchaeus is the chief tax collector in Jericho — rich, despised, and short. When Jesus passes through, the crowd blocks his view, so he climbs a sycamore tree. Jesus stops beneath it, calls him by name, and announces he's staying at his house. The crowd is scandalized that Jesus would dine with a known sinner. Zacchaeus stands and pledges to give half his wealth to the poor and to repay anyone he cheated four times over. Jesus declares, "Today salvation has come to this house."
