Suffering inflicted on believers because of their faith — predicted by Jesus and present from the church's first days
Jesus explicitly warned his followers to expect it (John 15:20, Matthew 5:10-12). Acts records persecution from the first sermons onward. Today an estimated 365 million Christians live under high or extreme persecution (Open Doors, 2024). The historic Christian response is to count it joy (James 1:2), love enemies (Matthew 5:44), and remain faithful regardless of cost.
