The view that Christ will return before a literal thousand-year reign on earth — a future kingdom, not a present reality
Held by many evangelicals, especially dispensationalists. In this view, Christ returns visibly, defeats evil, and then reigns on earth for a thousand years before the final judgment. The early church fathers (Irenaeus, Justin Martyr) held this view, though it fell out of favor after Augustine. It regained popularity in the 1800s through dispensationalist teaching.
