Listed in Luke's genealogy as the father (or father-in-law) of Joseph

Luke 3:23 says Jesus was 'the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli.' Since Matthew lists Joseph's father as Jacob, many scholars believe Heli was Mary's father, making Luke's genealogy the maternal line. Either way, he connects Jesus to David through a different branch than Matthew's account.
