One of the three friends who survived the fiery furnace — real name Hananiah
A Jewish exile in Babylon, originally named Hananiah, renamed Shadrach by the Babylonians (Daniel 1:7). Along with Meshach and Abednego, he stood firm when everyone else bowed to Nebuchadnezzar's golden image. Their faith statement before the furnace — 'our God is able to deliver us, but even if He does not' — is one of the most quoted declarations of trust in all of Scripture. They came out of the fire without even the smell of smoke.
The Babylon Makeover
Daniel 1:3-7Shadrach — born Hananiah, meaning 'the Lord is gracious' — is one of Daniel's three companions whose God-honoring Hebrew name is stripped away and replaced with a Babylonian one.
A Calm Voice in the Chaos
Daniel 2:14-18Shadrach (Hananiah) is one of the three friends Daniel gathers in his moment of crisis — called not to brainstorm but to pray together for divine intervention.
The Ultimatum
Daniel 3:13-15Shadrach stands before the most powerful ruler on earth, named explicitly in Nebuchadnezzar's ultimatum as one of the three men given a final chance to bow or face the furnace.
