The prince who carried the Temple treasures back from Babylon
A Jewish leader — possibly of royal Davidic descent — whom Cyrus appointed to return the Temple vessels to Jerusalem (Ezra 1:7-11). He laid the foundation of the new Temple (Ezra 5:16). His exact identity is debated: some scholars identify him with Zerubbabel, others see them as different people. Either way, he was instrumental in the earliest phase of the return from exile.
