American philosopher known for arguing that materialism cannot fully explain consciousness.
Thomas Nagel (born 1937) is an American philosopher at NYU. Though an atheist, his work — especially Mind and Cosmos — argues that materialist explanations of consciousness are fundamentally incomplete. His willingness to challenge the dominant materialist paradigm from a secular perspective makes him a significant voice in the faith-and-science conversation.
