A Macedonian Via Egnatia way station Paul transited between Amphipolis and Thessalonica
MacedoniaApollonia was a small Macedonian way station on the Via Egnatia about 45 km west of Amphipolis and 50 km east of Thessalonica — named for the god Apollo but never grown into a major centre. Acts 17:1 lists it alongside Amphipolis as Paul passed through on his second missionary journey: "when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica." The phrase "passed through" suggests Paul, Silas, and Timothy did not stop to preach — probably because there was no Jewish synagogue to give them the customary entry point for evangelism in this smaller settlement.
