"Aram of the Two Rivers" — the upper Mesopotamian homeland of Abraham's relatives Bethuel, Laban, and Rebekah
MesopotamiaAram-naharaim ("Aram of the two rivers") refers to the region of upper Mesopotamia between the Euphrates and the Khabur, the homeland of Abraham's extended family after the migration from Ur. Abraham sent his servant Eliezer here to find a wife for Isaac from the city of Nahor (Genesis 24:10), where Eliezer encountered Rebekah at the well. Jacob later fled here to Laban's household to escape Esau (Hosea 12:12 calls it "the field of Aram"). The cuneiform record refers to the same region as Naharin or Nahrima.
