The small island Paul's ship sheltered behind during the great storm that eventually shipwrecked them at Malta

Modern Gavdos, geographically and historically a match for Luke's Cauda south of Crete
Acts 27:16 names Cauda (also rendered Clauda) as the small island Paul's ship ran under to shelter briefly from the northeaster wind. The sailors used the brief lee to secure the lifeboat and undergird the hull with ropes. After Cauda the ship was driven across the Adriatic Sea for fourteen days before grounding on Malta. Cauda is modern Gavdos, a small Greek island south of Crete.
