A Mediterranean island — Barnabas' homeland and first stop on Paul's missionary journey
MediterraneanHistorically Verified
The island has been dug up since the 1800s. Ancient Phoenician colonies and copper trade records confirm its importance in the ancient world.
A large island in the eastern Mediterranean. Barnabas was from Cyprus (Acts 4:36). Paul and Barnabas began their first missionary journey there (Acts 13:4-12), where they encountered the sorcerer Bar-Jesus and converted the proconsul Sergius Paulus. After Paul and Barnabas split, Barnabas returned to Cyprus with Mark (Acts 15:39).
