A southern Negev settlement repopulated by returning exiles in the post-exile period
NegevEn-rimmon ("spring of the pomegranate") was a southern Negev settlement repopulated by the returning Judean exiles in the post-exile period: "And at En-rimmon, and at Zareah, and at Jarmuth" (Nehemiah 11:29). The town probably combines the older sites of Ain (Joshua 19:7) and Rimmon (also Josh 19:7) into a single compound settlement by the post-exile era — a common pattern as the smaller Iron Age villages of the Negev coalesced into larger postexilic communities. The site is identified with Khirbet Umm er-Rumamin southwest of Hebron.
