A village in the Assyrian invasion route immortalized in Isaiahs prophecy of the advance against Jerusalem
Laishah appears once in Scripture in Isaiah's vivid prophetic vision of the Assyrian army's relentless advance toward Jerusalem: "Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, poor Anathoth. Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee" (Isaiah 10:30-31). The prophecy traces the Assyrian invasion route village by village down the central Benjaminite ridge toward Jerusalem — Laishah was a small settlement on that fateful corridor between Anathoth and Madmenah, identified with sites a few miles north of Jerusalem in the tribal territory of Benjamin.
