NT Lydda — where Peter healed Aeneas and the whole Sharon region turned to faith
Sharon PlainHistorically Verified
Modern Lod is the location of Israel's main international airport. The famous Lod Mosaic floor dates to the Roman period and confirms a wealthy late-Roman town.
A town on the Sharon plain about ten miles southeast of Joppa, founded by Shemed of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 8:12) and resettled by returning exiles (Ezra 2:33; Nehemiah 7:37; 11:35). In the New Testament it appears under its Greek name Lydda, where Peter healed the paralyzed Aeneas — a miracle that brought the whole region of Sharon to faith and prepared the way for Peter's vision in nearby Joppa (Acts 9:32-35). The city sat at a strategic crossroads where the highland routes met the coastal plain.
