An Asherite Levitical town in the western Galilee — given to the Gershonite Levites as one of their thirteen northern cities
AsherMishal (also Misheal, Mashal) was a town allotted to the tribe of Asher in the western Galilee (Joshua 19:26). At the Levitical distribution, it was assigned as one of the four Asherite towns given to the Gershonite clan of Levites (Joshua 21:30, 1 Chronicles 6:74). The Gershonites received thirteen towns scattered through the northern tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ensuring that Levites served as teachers and judges throughout the Galilee. Mishal's exact location is uncertain but lay in the inland plain south of Acco.
