The chief city of the Aegean island of Lesbos where Pauls coasting ship anchored overnight on his third missionary journey return
AegeanMitylene appears once in Scripture in Luke's narration of Paul's third missionary journey return: "And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene. And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus" (Acts 20:14-15). Mitylene was the chief city of the Aegean island of Lesbos, a prosperous Greek harbor that gave its name to the modern island. Paul's coasting vessel anchored overnight in its protected eastern harbor before continuing south through the Aegean island chain toward Miletus where he would deliver his famous farewell to the Ephesian elders.
