A town in Judahs second Shephelah district allotment between Beth-dagon and Makkedah
Naamah appears as a place name once in Scripture in Joshua's catalog of Judah's second Shephelah district: "And Gederoth, Beth-dagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages" (Joshua 15:41). The town lay in the contested western lowlands near Lachish in the cluster of small frontier settlements that buffered the Judean highland from the Philistine coastal plain. The personal name Naamah is also borne by two biblical women: the daughter of Lamech in Genesis 4:22 and the Ammonite mother of King Rehoboam (1 Kings 14:21). The site is commonly identified with Naaneh about four miles south of Gederah.
