Roman capital of Cyprus where Paul blinded the sorcerer Elymas and converted proconsul Sergius Paulus
CyprusHistorically Verified
Modern Kato Paphos in southwest Cyprus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Preserves the House of Dionysus mosaics, Roman agora, Tombs of the Kings, and "Saint Paul's Pillar" where tradition says Paul was scourged.
The Roman capital of Cyprus on the western coast of the island, where Paul and Barnabas concluded their journey across Cyprus on their first missionary trip. There Paul confronted the Jewish sorcerer Bar-Jesus (Elymas) who was opposing the gospel before the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus. Paul struck Elymas blind, and the proconsul believed — the first Roman official converted in Acts (Acts 13:6-12). It was at Paphos that Saul's name first transitions to Paul in Luke's narrative.
