Egypt's eastern frontier fortress — Hebrew "Sin," the stronghold of Egypt in Ezekiel's judgment oracles
EgyptHistorically Verified
Ancient site at Tell el-Farama on the Egyptian Suez Canal coast. Excavations have uncovered a Roman-era theatre, basilica, and harbor that confirm a major military and commercial city.
An ancient Egyptian frontier city on the easternmost branch of the Nile Delta, called Sin in Hebrew (Ezekiel 30:15-16) — "the stronghold of Egypt." It guarded the land route into Egypt from the Sinai and stood as Egypt's first line of defense against Assyrian, Babylonian, and Persian invasions. Ezekiel's oracle against Egypt prophesied that God would "pour out my wrath on Pelusium" and "cut off the population of Thebes" (Ezekiel 30:15-16). The city remained a major military post through Greek, Roman, and Byzantine times.
