A city on the Euphrates River that marked the easternmost extent of King Solomons empire
SyriaTiphsah appears once in Scripture as the eastern boundary marker of King Solomon's empire: "For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him" (1 Kings 4:24). The town is identified with the Greek city of Thapsacus on the Euphrates River near modern Halabiyya in Syria — a strategic ford that controlled the trade route between Mesopotamia and the Mediterranean. From Tiphsah on the east to Gaza on the west, Solomon's sphere of influence stretched the full length of the Levant during the golden age of the united kingdom.
