A location in Edom where King Joram of Judah broke through the Edomite encirclement during their revolt
EdomZair appears once in Scripture as the location of King Joram of Judah's narrow military escape during the Edomite revolt: "And Jehoram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents. Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day" (2 Kings 8:21-22). King Joram (Jehoram) broke through the Edomite encirclement by night attack, but failed to subdue the revolt — Edom's independence from Judah lasted "unto this day." The site of Zair is unidentified but lay somewhere in northwestern Edom on the Judean-Edomite frontier.
