Mountain on the Edom border where Aaron the high priest died and Eleazar inherited the priesthood
EdomHistorically Verified
Tradition identifies it with Jebel Harun ("Aaron's mountain") near Petra in Jordan. A small Islamic shrine at the summit marks the traditional tomb of Aaron — the prophet revered in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
The mountain on the border of Edom where Aaron died and was buried (Numbers 20:22-29; 33:37-39; Deuteronomy 32:50). At the Lord's command, Moses brought Aaron and his son Eleazar up the mountain, stripped Aaron of his priestly garments, and put them on Eleazar; Aaron died there at age 123. All Israel mourned for him thirty days. A second Mount Hor on the northern border of the Promised Land marked Israel's far frontier (Numbers 34:7-8).
