A wilderness encampment in the Arabah south of Edom — Israel's stop after Mount Hor and before Punon
EdomZalmonah was one of the wilderness stations recorded in the itinerary of Numbers 33 — Israel's encampment after leaving Mount Hor (where Aaron died) and before Punon. The name means "shady" or "dark," and the location lay on the route around Edom in the Arabah valley. It is associated with the bronze serpent episode in Numbers 21:4-9, when the people grew impatient on the long detour around Edom, complained against God and Moses, and were attacked by venomous snakes — and Moses lifted up the bronze serpent on a pole so that any who looked at it would live.
