One of the five destroyed cities of the plain — paired with Admah in Hosea's lament
Dead SeaHistorically Verified
The exact site is unknown — some scholars link the Early Bronze Age destruction layers at Bab edh-Dhra and Numeira south of the Dead Sea to the destruction of the cities of the plain.
One of the five cities of the plain near the Dead Sea, joined with Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Bela (Zoar). Like its sister cities, Zeboiim was defeated in the war of Genesis 14 and then destroyed by God's judgment of fire and sulfur with Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19; Deuteronomy 29:23; Hosea 11:8). The prophet Hosea named Admah and Zeboiim together in his lament — God's compassion held Him back from treating Israel the way He treated those two cities.
