A boundary marker on the northern frontier of the Promised Land in Numbers ideal tribal map
SyriaZiphron appears once in Scripture as a boundary marker on the northern frontier of the Promised Land in Moses's catalog of Israel's ideal tribal territory: "And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazar-enan: this shall be your north border" (Numbers 34:9). The line ran north from Mount Hor on the Mediterranean coast through Lebo-hamath and Zedad to Ziphron and the springs of Hazar-enan in the upper Beqaa Valley. The historical post-conquest borders of Israel never extended this far north — the catalog preserves the divine ideal that Ezekiel later picked up in his vision of the restored land (Ezekiel 47:15-17).
