Paul doesn't forbid grief. He reframes it. What does grief accompanied by hope look like for you?
Does the promise of resurrection feel tangible to you right now, or distant?

"We ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus — you already know how to live in a way that pleases God. You're doing it. Now do it more and more. You know the instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus."

"This is God's will — your sanctification. Stay away from sexual immorality. Each of you should learn to control your own body in holiness and honor — not driven by lust like the Gentiles who don't know God. Don't cross a line and wrong another person in this area, because the Lord takes this seriously. He will hold people accountable — we told you this before, and we meant it.
God didn't call you to impurity. He called you to holiness. So anyone who rejects this isn't rejecting a human opinion — they're rejecting God himself, the one who gives you his Holy Spirit."
The Thessalonians lived where prostitution was normal. Paul said: you're different — not because of a rule list, but because himself lives in you. It's not about . The who gave you his designed something better.

"We believe that Jesus died and rose again. And because of that, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
Here's what the Lord himself has declared: those of us who are still alive when he comes will not go ahead of those who have already died. The Lord himself will come down from Heaven — with a commanding shout, with the voice of an archangel, with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then those of us still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And we will be with the Lord forever."

The dead in rise first. Then everyone joins them — with the Lord, forever. This is the passage people read at funerals. It doesn't minimize the loss — it offers a future so concrete Paul described the sound of it. Not a nicety, but a from the Lord himself that the separation is temporary and the is coming.
